Remote sensing, Geographic Information Systems and Spatial modelling workshop

This workshop organized by CIRAD and IRD took place from May 16 to May 20, 2022 in Harare (Zimbabwe).

Led by Annelise Tran, Florent Rumanio and Nolwenn Le Pioufle, it brought together 19 partners and students from the RP-PCP platform . Participants were of different levels, with a majority of beginners and 5 intermediate level people. The participants came from different institutions of Zimbabwe and Botswana:

  • University of Zimbabwe
  • Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT)
  • Great Zimbabwe University (GZU)
  • Central Veterinary Laboratory (CVL)
  • National University of Science and Technology (NUST)
  • Bindura University of Science Education (BUSE)
  • Univ. Botswana
  • CIRAD
  • IRD

After a presentation of the results of the TEMPO project, the participants manipulated QGIS during several days. Starting with the discovery of the interface, they learned how to create shapefile layers, import GPS data, download satellite images and perform calculations on rasters.

The workshop ended with presentations from each participant explaining how they could use the methods they learned for their studies. Presentations covered topics such as species conservation, animal mobility, human-animal conflicts and epidemiology.
